Fitness Center/Gym -  The closest place is a surprisingly nice gym called Upcountry Fitness in Haiku.  It is behind the post office.  They have weekly passes for $56 and 2 week passes for $76.  A second person can be added for 20% discount.  810 Kokomo Road  Haiku, HI 96708  (808) 575-7334.  There is also a 24 hour fitness in Kahului.

Public Pool -  To my knowledge there are two public pools   Upcountry Pool - 90 Pukalani Street in Pukalani (808) 572-1479  and Kihei Aquatic Center 303 East Lipoa Street in Kihei  (808) 874-8137

Farmer's Markets -  Maui Swap Meet - Every Saturday 7am-1pm.  I fun thing to do for everyone.  From vegetables to art.  Good food and people watching.  In Kahului behind the Community College.  You can find it on Yelp.

Photography -  Anna Kim Photography is excellent.  She is ideal for vacation portraits.  214-7550. Exclusively an on-site photographer, Anna will come to you at the location of your choice to capture you and your loved ones enjoying Maui.  It is recommended you book in advance, as Anna is in very high demand, but it's always worth checking in at the last minute just to see if there's an opening. www.AnnaKimPhotography.com

Shopping by Town
(this is by no means a comprehensive list, just a local overview of what to expect where, and a few fun places we'd definitely recommend visiting if you're nearby and in the mood to browse).

Paia – Fun town. Nearly every store is quirky and fun. Some touristy-blech, but mostly it's free-range, organic, grass-fed bananas, hemp fabrics, boutiques featuring the work of local artists and a lot of trippy-hippy-boho-surfer flavor. Also some eccentrics and loonies. The good kind.

Makawao – Old Hawaiian cowboy town. Fun place with a few neat shops. Discover a gem of a deli/coffee place in a hidden courtyard.

Kahului – nothing unique, just the ‘big’ stores. Great for staples and supplies, definitely not for experiencing local small business. Come here for Costco, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowe's.

Wailea – an hour away but all the high end retailers (Tiffany’s, Dolce Gabbana, etc)

Hilo Hattie’s Kihei or Lahaina – good for gifts with a Hawaiian flair

ABC Stores – Lahaina on Front Street or in the Cannery.
